General Swimming Lesson Information

A child cannot learn to swim until they are comfortable putting their head down and face in the water. Young children have not developed the upper body strength to swim with their head out of the water. At the Aquatic Zone, we work with you to help your child become "comfortable" going underwater. Being comfortable underwater is the first step in learning to swim.

Most infants and toddlers under the age of 15 months are very comfortable in the water if they have not encountered a bad experience. They do not mind getting water in their eyes, ears, noses or mouths. However, an older child that is introduced to water for the first time, can and usually does, react to going under water. The sensation of having water in their eyes, ears, nose and mouth is no longer familiar and is uncomfortable and frightening.

The purpose of our swim programs at The Aquatic Zone is to give children an opportunity to get use to the water through play and positive experiences. Parents who are able to introduce their child to swimming at an early age will see great progress in their overall child's swimming ability as their child gets older and develops physically.

The Aquatic Zone program has developed a very set routine that helps children of all ages become comfortable going under water. All Aquatic Zone classes are taught using the same routine every class. By using a set routine, children and parents will know what to expect. Our goal is to teach swimming lessons to people of all ages with repetition and routine while learning to have fun in the water.
